Astrophotography by Michelle Stone

I haven't done any photography since October 2001.  These pictures look amateurish in comparison to many that are produced today.  I intend to get back to doing some imaging just as soon as I can!

Although my passion is observational astronomy, I have  always had a strong desire to photograph the heavens. I use several techniques with various pieces of equipment to shoot each subject.  Click on any of the images to explore work I have done with similar subjects.

Galaxies are my favorites. They are also the most difficult to photograph. They have a low surface brightness and many tend to be small from our perspective

Nebulae are regions in space that contain large volumes of gas and dust.

Globular Star Clusters are superclusters of stars within our galaxy.

Open Star Fields are the most stunning of celestial photographs in my opinion. These are wide areas of the sky and are shot with just an ordinary vintage SLR camera
