November 1, 2008I need to keep this updated more often! Tonight is a total loss if you want to observe anything but the moon. We've got lots of moon from sunset nearly till dawn. If you are a looney .... and I sometimes am.... the full moon is great for looking at the rays of the crater Tycho. It's on the lower half of the moon. Check it out with binoculars. You'll see the rays from this crater extend for hundreds of kilometers. December 21, 2008There's lot's to look at this week in the sky. Immediately after sunset, look to the south west. The two brightest objects you can see are Venus and Jupiter. Currently Venus is up higher and the brightest of the two. As the night progresses, you'll want to take a look at two of the most amazing objects in the sky. Best of all, you don't even need a telescope. Use a pair of binoculars if you have them. Look for the constellation Orion. It is rising in the south east just after sunset and is directly south nearing 10 PM |
