The Milky Way in Sagitarius

There's nothing quite like observing on a warm summer night in shorts and sandals.  Sagitarius is rich with bright glorius objects to observe. And some are not so bright. On the far right of center, you will see a dark shape of a horse rearing up on its hind legs.

The "pipe nebula" is made up of dark interstellar dust and blocks starlight from our view. See if you can see it on a dark summer night. The red objects are bright emission nebulae. Photos of most of them appear on other pages in this site. This field is also very rich in globular clusters.
